Guild Wars: Factions
Guild
Wars Factions is a computer game released in 2006 by
ArenaNet and is the first stand-alone campaign
expanding on Prophecies, the original Guild Wars
game. Factions introduces the player to the
continent of Cantha where two warring factions,
Luxon and Kurzick, battle for domination. Players
are able to join in this conflict, assisting their
chosen faction in claiming towns on the game map.
Factions has a new PvE campaign, two new
professions, new skills and armor for existing
professions, new gameplay modes for both PvE and PvP
and also addresses some of the criticisms of the
original game. Buying Factions as a
stand-alone game does not allow access to the
original game continent, Tyria, and PvE campaign.
The professions from Prophecies are available for
Factions players to create. However some skills from
the original campaign are not available, but new
skills for these professions are introduced. Most of
the PvP content from Prophecies is available to
Factions players. A player with both Factions
and Guild Wars Prophecies can link the games which
allows their characters to travel between the two
game's continents and the player may maintain two
more concurrent characters.

Guild Wars: Nightfall
Guild
Wars Nightfall is a fantasy Competitive/Co-operative
Online RolePlaying Game (CORPG) and the third
stand-alone campaign in the Guild Wars computer game
series developed by ArenaNet. Nightfall was released
worldwide on October 27, 2006. Nightfall takes
place in the continent of Elona in the Guild Wars
universe. It follows the player's character as they
join the Order of the Sunspears and uncover the
desire of Warmarshal Varesh to return a long
forgotten God to the world through an event called
Nightfall. The player, assisted by their hero
allies, fight through civil war, ignorant Vabbi
princes and Varesh's demon allies as they attempt to
prevent the coming of Nightfall. Buying Nightfall as
a stand-alone game does not allow access to the
original game or Factions. The professions from
Prophecies are available for Nightfall players to
create. However some skills from the original
campaign as well as Factions are not available, but
new skills for these professions are introduced.
Most of the PvP content from Prophecies is available
to players. A player with Factions, Nightfall
and Guild Wars Prophecies can link the games which
allows their characters to travel between the game's
continents and the player may maintain two more
concurrent characters.

Guild Wars: Eye of the North
As
the story of this expansion unfolds, players will
delve into eighteen vast dungeons to face untold
enemies, search for clues about the menace facing
the world, and uncover new weapons they can use in
the final confrontation. These immersive,
multi-level dungeons will take characters deep
beneath the earth and expose them to challenges the
likes of which have never been seen in any Guild
Wars game to date. Heroes are born in the
crucible of conflict and tempered in the flames of
battle. Their deeds shine throughout history
as a beacon of hope to those who must rise to defend
the world in ages to come, becoming part of the
legend of the land. The legends forged within
Prophecies, Factions, Nightfall, and the Eye of the
North will not be forgotten in the future world of
Guild Wars 2. Your deeds from the original
Guild Wars campaigns will be commemorated in the Eye
of the North expansion in your Hall of Monuments.
The Hall of Monuments will reflect the achievements
you earn in Eye of the North as well as those earned
in Prophecies, Factions, and Nightfall.

Each time there is an update to the game the
existing client automatically downloads a new
version of the client which examines a manifest of
files to determine which files have been modified
and therefore need to be downloaded to the client
machine. This manifest is prioritized, the
most important files are download prior to the
player being able to start the game, the rest are
downloaded in the background while the player is
playing. ArenaNet uses this rapid update
technology to make changes on demand and close
exploits in the system. |
